THE UK WORKING WHIPPET CLUB
THE UK Working Whippet Club held their first lurcher, terrier,
Whippet and ferret show on Saturday April 11 at the School
House Inn, Low Marishes, near Malton, North Yorkshire, alongside
Whippet lure coursing stakes and an eight-dog lurcher stake.
Winner of the main 16-dog Whippet lure coursing stake was
Russ Hurst’s ‘Williamswick Cavalier’ while the eight-dog stake was
won by Sarah Layfiend’s ‘Winterfell Lady Grey.’ Winner of the lurcher
stake was Tanya Docwra’s ‘Tyler.’ In the Whippet showing classes
the winning bitch was ‘Vixen’ owned by Mally and best dog was
‘Finn’ owned by Kallam Leather. Overall Best Whippet in Show was
awarded to ‘Vixen.’ Winner of the lurcher pup class
was Maggie Warren’s ‘Ruby’ while Mally’s ‘Vixen’ won the rabbiting
class and Maggie Warren’s ‘Ruby’ and ‘Jack’ triumphed in the progeny
class.
In the under 23 inches showing classes best smooth bitch was
Darren Young’s ‘Sally,’ best rough bitch was Mrs Clarke’s ‘Dixie,’ best
smooth dog was Maggie Warren’s ‘Jack’ and best rough dog was
Maggie Warren’s ‘Sam.’ Best smooth dog over 23 inches
was Sonya’s ‘Jake,’ best rough dog over 23 inches was Mark Allen’s
‘Scruff,’ Best smooth bitch over 23 inches was Jay Hutchings’ ‘Lucy’
and best rough bitch over 23 inches was Darren’s ‘Ella.’
Best Lurcher in Show was Darren Young’s ‘Sally’ with Darren Coupe’s
‘Ella’ placed reserve. In the terrier ring best Jack Russell dog was ‘Nipper,’ best Jack
Russell bitch was ‘Kelly,’ best Border dog was ‘Mick,’ best Border bitch
was ‘Tinker,’ best Lakeland dog was ‘Rocky,’ best Lakeland bitch was
‘Tilly,’ best Fell dog was ‘Sweep’ and best Fell bitch was ‘Jet.’ winner
of the crossbred terrier class was ‘Rebble,’
Best Terrier in Show was Steve Alliborne’s ‘Nipper with Mrs
William’s ‘Rebble’ in reserve. Organisers of the show express
their thanks to slipper Arron Atmore, lure coursing judge
Gary Corbett, slip steward Patrick Hawkins, lurcher and Whippet
judge John Glover, lurcher judge Mim Armstrong, and terrier judge
Mick Wilson. Following the show the presentation of a cheque was made by
the UK Working Whippet club to the Countryside Alliance’s Repeal Fund.
